What Are Viral Marketing Techniques?

§ February 1st, 2012 § Filed under Ecommerce § Tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , Comments Off

The idea of viral marketing is one of the more recent ways of advertising to come to the Internet. As the word ‘viral’ implies, it depends on people passing your promotional material around like a cold. It would normally travel from friends and colleagues to their friends and colleagues ad infinitum. You can imagine that if I sent a message to all the people in my address book and they did the same, the message would probably reach a million people in a month. All free of charge.

Viral marketing is low cost and can be fast and far reaching, if you use the right marketing medium, but it does have a propensity to be nonspecific. That is to say, you do not know who is going to receive your viral advert, so you do not know if that individual will be interested or not.

You can draw certain conclusions, if you select your material properly though. Say, you had a website on craft work. You could send out a free knitting pattern to all your friends and to those other people who have given you permission to do so (no spamming, please). Put the URL of your website at the bottom and tell the recipients that they may pass it on to anyone they know who would appreciate it.

Job done!! Now you know that most of the recipients after the first trenche that you sent out yourself will be interested in crafts and / or knitting. It is also fairly safe to assume that most of them will be older women with computers. If you marked your return URL with a code by sending them to a web page like viral-ad1-knitting.html and had a sign-up box their for a newsletter, you would soon have a list of older, computer literate women who like knitting or and other crafts. That data would be of use.

Various companies send out various things. It might be a free report on smoking or catching trout or bicycle maintenance. Some people just send out jokes. Sending out jokes or pictures is not targeted but you can see how other things are very focused.

Hotmail came up with this strategy and they maintain that they went from zero subscribers to twelve million in eighteen months. That is some record to beat. Look at the bottom of a lot of the email circulars that you receive and you will in all probability still see Hotmail’s viral marketing.

This is the best viral marketing technique, but you must attach you URL to something of value, you friends will not want to send junk or sales blurb to their friends and family. Keep the emails informative, useful or humorous, is the best tactic.

Very similar to this method is the use of a sigfile (short for ‘signature file’). Write a snappy little one or two line file with your URL at the end. Outlook, Outlook Express and the majority of of the others will append this sigfile to the bottom of your emails automatically. This is a good method of getting your URL out to thousands of people a month, particularly if, when you write to say, your Mum, she forwards it to all your brothers and sisters, aunties and uncles.

It is a straightforward, yet free viral marketing strategy that many people overlook. By the way, use the same sigfile in the entries you make on blogs. You do not make any? Shame on you, you should. Search Google for related blogs like – blogs knitting – and sign up to a few. Then read the posts and submit comments with your sigfile. Hundreds will read them and some will click through, if you are not too boring. Do not bore people on blogs by advertising yourself.

What Are Meditation Chairs?

§ November 13th, 2011 § Filed under Home Based Business § Tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , Comments Off

Life is faster now than ever it was and, although we have no end of so-called labour-saving equipment, we work harder too. When our ancestors came in from the fields, it quickly got dark, they would eat and not having enough lighting or computers to play with, they would go to bed. We on the other hand, put the light on and keep going.

Many of us only get sufficient relaxation on the weekends and that is only if there are no children around. I am certain that you are familiar with the life style. Some people even need two jobs to make ends meet, thus exacerbating the problem.

The stress that all this work and commotion produces is too much for some of those who have not learned how to unwind. Recent studies show that stress contributes to high blood pressure and heart disease and thanks to the frantic lifestyle that people live today, heart disease is thought to be the number one killer in the United States of America. So, stress is one of the biggest killers these days. How will you take care of your family if you are dead? Insurance? Well, that is another bill that has to be footed. Exercise? OK, in moderation, but you are almost certainly already tired when you get in from work. What else is there? A few drinks? Again, all right in moderation. You could watch a film, I suppose, many people do.

Other ways of reducing stress are yoga and meditation. I liken yoga with exercise and most of the time I cannot be bothered when I get in from work. Meditation, on the other hand, is a different kettle of fish. It is the next best thing to sleep. If you are meditating just to relax, you could have something light to eat when you get in from work, if you like; have a shower or a bath; put on some loose-fitting garments and start your meditation. You can eat again later, if you wish.

You will need to get a book in order to learn how to meditate correctly, but there are thousands of them out there, so that will not be a problem. The traditional pose for yogis when they meditate is the lotus position of crossed legs.

However, Asians often sit like that when they are socializing too and learn it from an early age. They sit like that every day of their lives. Westerners, on the other hand, do not do those things, so I am sure that it is perfectly acceptable to get a comfortable chair.

There are specialized meditation chairs, which are not expensive. They provide a bit of padding and a bit of support for your back, but you could just as simply sit on a cushion against a wall. I think that the finest meditation chairs are recliners. A comfortable reclining chair is an idyllic meditation chair for a Westerner, although if you want perfection, a reclining massage chair would be it for me. What do you think?

Car Leasing Can Be A Good Solution

§ April 22nd, 2011 § Filed under Small Business § Tagged , , , , , , , , , Comments Off

These days in most of the western world, it is increasingly important to have some kind of motorized vehicle in order to do many things. Vehicles are not inexpensive things to purchase, however, and many people find the initial costs to be too high. Sometimes car leasing is the better way to acquire transportation.

This approach is conceptually distinct from the usual financing protocols offered by dealers. Purchasing a vehicle will require the buyer to make payments derived from its total value. A lease, by contrast, has payments based on the vehicle’s estimated depreciated value by the end of the contract’s term.

Normally, these sorts of contracts run twenty four, thirty six, or forty eight months. If required, other durations can be arranged. Due to the wide spectrum of need and usage, most dealers will be able to negotiate a contract that addresses the needs of almost all customers.

Also you can check this great article Topic Reviews » Blog Archive » Which Generator Will Be Best For Your Needs?

These contracts are predicated upon the concept of known depreciation. Essentially, the resale value of a vehicle can be calculated based on devaluation, so that a twenty thousand dollar automobile may have a resale value of only thirteen thousand dollars after a period of two years.

Upon completion of the lease, the automobile is returned to the dealer. Over the course of the contract the vehicle will have lost seven thousand dollars of its value, and so that is the amount upon which the payment schedule will be based. In this way the monthly payments can be smaller. The depreciated values of nearly all vehicles across many time periods is known to the industry.

Businesses often discover that car leasing is a great solution to their problems. Many people also find that the shorter contract length coupled with the usually smaller monthly payments are a good fit with their household budgets.

This car leasing plan does not look that bad. We think you are really going to enjoy it, once you look at it. Http://www.lease4less.org.uk/

What To Consider When Choosing Greenhouse Lighting

§ July 1st, 2010 § Filed under Home Improvement § Tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , Comments Off

Gardening is a very popular hobby particularly among homeowners, which means the over-thirties really. A pretty garden definitely does make a house look better. However, bedding plants and fruit trees can be quite expensive, consequently a lot of gardeners want or already have some form of greenhouse so that they can propagate plants themselves and grow more exotic flowers and fruits.

It really depends on the kind of greenhouse you have and where you live, but many greenhouses can be ‘adjusted’ to grow most kinds of plants from around the world. Global warming has helped in this respect as well. In most places, you can grow grapes from France or orchids from Thailand where normally such plants would die outside.

Therefore, having a greenhouse is a bit like keeping a tropical fish tank. The gardener has brought those plants to a part of the planet where they cannot support themselves. They should not be there, so it is up to the gardener to create the circumstances in which those plants can thrive. This has mostly to do with aeration, temperature control, humidity and lighting.

Lighting is especially important in the winter in the temperate zones, because the duration of sunlight can be as low as two or three hours and the quality of light can be very bad. Just because it is bright enough for you to see where you are going does not mean that it is light enough for a plant to nourish itself.

Light in the tropics is always strong for most of the day and there is perhaps only an hour difference between daylight hours in the summer and the winter. Normally there are about twelve hours of light and twelve hours of darkness.

Obviously, this means that is likely that you will have to provide some sort of artificial lighting if you have a green house. I have never seen a greenhouse in the tropics.

Which kind of greenhouse light you buy, really depends on the kind of plants you propose growing. If you want tropical orchids, for example, you will need a high level of humidity, which means that your light will have to be water-resistant or even waterproof.

Another factor to keep in mind is the photo period – the length of time you will have to provide light. This could be as much as twelve hours at a stretch in the winter, so you will have to have a light that can cope with that without becoming over heated

Different lights produce different wavelengths of light, that is light from different parts of the spectrum. These different wavelengths of light yield different results, so you will need to know what you want to achieve before you can buy a greenhouse light. Spectrum colours are good for promoting the growth of orchids, but you will have to do some research, once you know what you want to grow.

Finally, if the greenhouse light is to be used for many hours a day, look out for an energy efficient light. It may be more expensive, but it will pay for itself. Cheaper lights often waste energy by generating heat, but more heat is not always a good thing. It is far better to control the temperature separately.

Candle Holders – Picking A Style For You

§ July 1st, 2010 § Filed under Home Improvement § Tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , Comments Off

Candles are an easy way to add warmth and elegance to any room in the house. They can also do the same in the garden if the wind is not too strong. Scented candles are even more useful when it comes to creating a mood or atmosphere. Making and selling candles can also be a lucrative home business. However, there are three reasons why you ought to use candle holders when burning candles: safety, presentation and mess.

It is just not a good idea to let candles stand just on their base even though they may seem all right. For safety reasons alone, you should use a candle holder to retain the dripping wax and catch the last bit of the wick when the candle burns down to the bottom, if you do not, you are running the needless risk of starting a fire. And think of the mess that melted candle wax causes! You either have to scrape it off hard surfaces or iron it out of fabrics. All of it unnecessary work for the sake of a candle holder

Then there is the added style that the right candle holders can add to your room or patio. Yes, you can use candles on a patio or deck even if there is a gentle wind with the right candle holders. Think about the old fashioned glass lanterns with the opening panel to get at the candle. They look very stylish hanging on the wall or placed on the table on a patio or deck.

There really is such a vast range of good quality candle holders on the market now that you will be able to find several to suit any style of decor that you may have in your house and, of course, some types of candle holders will blend with virtually any style. Think of candlesticks and candelabra, for instance.

No romantic table would be right without at least one candlestick with its candle. A normal romantic meal would have white, unscented, tapered candles, whereas a Christmas table would not really look right without red tapered candles in their candlesticks.

There are specialized candle holders too, such things as candelabra. Some candelabra are highly specialized like the menorah and the kinara, which are used to mark special occasions. However, the candle holders that most people will be familiar with are the good old candlesticks, especially those used at the dining table or in a restaurant.

Every household should have a few candle holders that they can bring out for special meals or to create distinctive lighting effects. This is one of the reasons why candle holders make such fantastic and appreciated gifts for any adult. So, if you are stuck for a gift idea at any time, consider giving a beautiful candlestick or better still, a pair of candlesticks or a stylish candelabrum.

The latest trend in trendy candle holders is the candelabrum painted in a bright hue. Red, blue or yellow are popular colours for modern candelabra or buy a wrought iron candelabrum and paint it yourself and you will have one of the most stylish candle holders in the street.

Aerating Your Backyard Fish Pond Water

§ June 1st, 2010 § Filed under Home Improvement § Tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , Comments Off

Are you interested in having a backyard or garden fish pond or water garden? A fish pond certainly sets a garden off and becomes a focal and talking point for guests to your garden. However, never think that a backyard fish pond is a set-and-forget feature – you will always be concerned with aerating your backyard fish pond water.

Fish require an environment that reflects their natural habitat, say, a river. Rivers run into the sea and are regularly renewed by clean rainwater.

This natural process, coupled with the flow of the water over rocks and other obstacles keeps the fish’s environment beneficial to the fish. You cannot do the same, but you can emulate nature. If you fail to do this, your fish will get sick with diseases that a beginner will not notice and die.

The main item that fish require is clean, oxygenated water. So, how do you do that? Well, the first thing to understand is that pond fish do not require as much oxygenated water in the winter as in the summer, because fish are semi-dormant in the winter. However, warm water is not capable of holding as much oxygen as cold water, so you really need a good aeration system in the summer.

Therefore, you need to set up some sort of effective fish pond water aeration system. This aeration system will be linked closely with your pond filtration device. The front line apparatus for oxygenating your backyard fish pond water is the pond pump. In fact, you may even need two pond pumps.

Oxygen can be drawn out of your pond water by rotting vegetation and algae, so extricating these will help aerate your pond water. Therefore, you should use a general pond pump that will allow pond debris to pass through its impeller blades. The pump will send the water to your pond filter in order to remove it.

The water will then go back to the pond. If you let it fall from step to step on its way back, the water will be polished and aerated when it arrives home in the pond. Another measure you can take is to set up a pond fountain.

However, you will probably need a different pump, because the filtration pump allows pond vegetation debris through, which would choke the jets of the pond fountain. The water from the fountain will aerate the pond when it falls back to the surface.

Basic Woodworking Projects – Decking

§ April 2nd, 2010 § Filed under Home Improvement § Tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , Comments Off

Timber, or wood, is still the first preference for furniture and other home and garden projects like decking. However, there is a large variety of sorts of timber to select from. The first alternative is whether you will use hardwood or softwood. Hardwood is a lot more expensive, but it will not decay as quickly as softwood.

Both hardwood and softwood are beautiful or can be made to look beautiful with a suitable finish. Softwood normally takes more looking after, but can last just as long as hardwood, if it is sealed properly. If you want to paint the wood, then softwood is the better choice, because hardwood does not allow paint to soak in very well, but it will take staining, oiling and thin varnishing.

Once you have chosen which type of timber you are going to use, you can think about which variety you want to use. If you are going to use hardwood, you have many alternatives, such as teak, mahogany or oak et cetera. If you choose softwood the most common timber used is pine. Whichever you finally use, choose each length of timber with care. You do not want distorted, crooked lengths of timber or pieces with an excessive number of knots in it. A good carpenter will inspect each length individually.

Then you will need something to hold the decking down. Nails or screws? Screws are almost certainly best because they will not come loose if the timber dries out. If you are using softwood, it will be alright to use stainless steel screws, but if you are using costly hardwood, then I would use brass screws.

You will probably need three inch screws and they should be neatly countersunk, so that the screw’s head is just below the surface of the wood. You can then plug it or not. Yes with steel screws, not with brass screws, but it is really up to your personal preference.

Prepare the area before you start. It is probably best to use a concrete or slabbed base. This should be level and above the normal flow of rain water in your garden. If it does get wet, as when you hose it down, the water should fall through the boards and then flow away. You do not want it to stay under the decking so that mosquitoes can reproduce in it.

It is not difficult to lay a wooden deck, but it a good idea to obtain a set of decking plans to work by. They will make certain that you do not miss a stage. They will also give you good advice and tips about which materials to use and how to finish your deck so that it does not rot quickly.

Once you have laid your own decking according to the plans, you could put an advert in the local paper and hire your services out to neighbours and locals. Everybody loves the idea of lounging out on their deck or porch in the evening and once you become a regular customer at the builders’ merchant or lumber yard, you may qualify for substantial discounts on materials, which will make your pricing more competitive.
