Thailand Spas Reviewed-Cheeva Spa

§ July 20th, 2010 § Filed under Beauty § Tagged , , , , , , , Comments Off

The Cheeva Spa has been in Chiang Mai, Thailand for quite a few years. Six months ago they relocated to a new, bigger, and more luxurious site. The new facility includes a lovely garden and separate buildings with treatment rooms. I reviewed the Cheeva on July 10, 2010.

The spa experience began nicely with a pleasant greeting from a cheerful receptionist. She assisted me with a choice from the menu. They offer a variety of massages and body treatments, I chose the one hour Hot Oil massage. They use jojoba for their massage oil. Jojoba happens to be my favorite for both receiving and giving massage. It is very close in chemical structure to our own sebum and this makes it a wonderful rejuvenator for hair and skin.

The Cheeva begins its treatments with a floral milk foot bath. This is followed by a short salt scrub for the feet. I was then taken to one of the adjacent buildings with a large treatment room. There were two massage tables and a rather large bath tub. It seems all the decor and equipment is new.

My therapist was named Daeng. She has been with the Cheeva Spa for six years. The massage was quite good. She combined correct tempo, rhythm, and pressure to create a very relaxing yet effective treatment.

The massage was followed with a cup of warm ginger tea. At that point I was relaxed and the little aches and pains from recent trekking were distant memories.

The prices at Cheeva are quite reasonable, this one hour treatment is usually 900 THB (around $30 USD). However, currently they have a special 20% off all treatments. Call ahead to confirm this in the future. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience, I received a good massage at a good price.

The Cheeva is convenient to the center of town, has good prices, and good service. I recommend it.

Sports Fishing In Puerto Jimenez, Costa Rica

§ July 9th, 2010 § Filed under Fishing § Tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , Comments Off

A friend of mine and her husband own Tropic Fins Adventures in Puerto Jimenez, Costa Rica, one day they invited us to join them on an exciting In-shore fishing trip during an afternoon. I was a bit nervous since Iam not a fisherman and my husband had about as much experience as I did. But we accepeted and it was great.

The name of our captain and guide for this adventure was Cory and he has had over 15 years experience fishing, has taken out professional fishermen and showed them the best times of their lives, yet I feel his job is a lot easier when he’s out with fellow fishermen, rather newbies such as us. Anyway he made our first fishing experience so fun, that my husband is already making plans for another one.

It all started as a quiet day with a 20 minute boat ride to the middle of Golfo Dulce. Once we anchored the boat Cory prepared all the rods. And oh my god! when the first bite happened the adrenaline that started to flow through us was hard to describe. I couldn’t believe that with just my luck, two bites came at once. Cory directed me to one while my husband was struggled with the other.

After a long and hard fight my husband, with Cory’s help, lifted out a beutiful Jack Cravel that weighed no less than twenty pounds and was breathing almost as hard as my husband. Meanwhile I was still on the other side of the boat fighting for my life with a fish that was dragging me all over the place. It was pulling so hard I had started to consider throwing myself over, or at least the rod. Finally after the excitement of the Jack Cravel fainted and the fish was released back to sea, I got the attention that i needee. Cory expertly took the rod from me and handed it over to my husband who managed to reel in a gorgeous fifty pound Rooster-fish.

But that’s not all. The best part of the trip for me was on the way back to the pier, right as the sun began to set over the Osa Peninsula. We were intercepted by a friendly group of dolphins. We had the time of our lives as the dolphins danced and jumped out of the water leading us straight to home.

Iron Chef: Japan’s Culinary Sensation Takes America By Storm

§ July 1st, 2010 § Filed under Marketing § Tagged , , , , , , § 1 Comment

One of the most entertaining spectacles on television can be found every week on the Food Network. The concept of the program sounds like a twisted dream”prominent chefs from all over the world go head to head in competitions more suited for All Japan Pro Wrestling. That’s exactly the premise of Iron Chef, which is hands down the most compelling cooking show on television. Even non-gourmands will enjoy the fast paced competition and the near incomprehensibility of the show.

The story behind the show goes something like this–there’s this rich dude, MC Kaga who summons the finest chefs in Japan to do battle in his kitchen stadium. Needless to say, a TV studio wouldn’t suffice for such a production: the kitchen stadium is in Kaga’s castle. Also in residence are three Iron Chefs, each representing a different type of cuisine (Chinese, French and Japanese). The summoned culinary challenger picks which Iron Chef he wants to take a crack at and the contest begins. The show was originally created by the Fuji TV network in the Japan, and the original Japanese title translates literally to The Iron Men of Cooking.

The chefs just don’t pull out the best dishes from their repertoire–that would be too predictable. There’s a catch to the contest, and thats the fact that every dish must contain the theme ingredient which is kept a mystery until immediately before the contest begins. At that time, Kaga brings forth a heaping helping of whatever the current mystery ingredient is in a production of smoke and pyrotechnics. Sometimes the ingredient is something basic like tofu or apples, but it can also be something obscure like ox tail or some obscure shellfish.

At that point, the chefs have an hour to prepare a seven course meal, served to a discerning panel of B-List celebrities that usually include a couple of ‘TV Presenters’ and a ‘fortune teller’. The judges rate and discuss each course and declare a winner.

The announcing is what makes the show. There’s a hysterical play by play announcer, an excitable color commentator, and an even more hyperactive sideline correspondent who will break in the commentary frequently with revelations such as observing that a chef is using fresh ginger in a dish or some similar piece of trivia. Apparently one of the announcers is a legit sumo wrestling announcer in Japan, making the strange connection between ‘Iron Chef’ and Japanese pro wrestling even more pronounced.

The dishes that the chefs come up with are always pretty amazing, creative and complex–if not always appetizing. Some of their creations look yummy, but a dessert with a compulsory use of carp isn’t exactly mouth watering for American palates. Nonetheless, the creative process and intensity of the competitors is amazing. Even as challenging as this is, the requirement that a theme ingredient be used in every component of the meal really ups the ante.

The Food Network has recently begun production of a native grown version called ‘Iron Chef America’. It has a similar format, but really loses a lot from the Fuji TV original.

Cro Cop Takes On Choi At Fields Dynamite

§ June 16th, 2010 § Filed under Marketing § Tagged , , , , , , Comments Off

The bizarre career of Croatian striking machine Mirko Cro Cop will continue on New Years Eve in Tokyo as he faces 72 Korean kickboxer Hong-Man Choi in what should be the final addition to the K-1/DREAM combined show called Fields Dynamite!. The matchup adds even more striking firepower to a lineup that already includes K-1 mainstays Peter Aerts, Mighty Mo, and Semmy Schlit.

For Cro Cop, its another stop on what has seemed like a meandering professional course full of much talk and little action since his departure from the UFC. In September 10, 2007, Cro Cop had just won PRIDE’s Open Weight Grand Prix in dominant fashion. In the process, he defeated Wanderlei Silva and Josh Barnett on the same night and some were suggesting that he, and not Fedor Emelianenko, was the best heavyweight fighter in the world.

Cro Cops upset loss to Gabriel Gonzaga changed that and his career his never really recovered. In what was supposed to be a “tune up” bout, Gonzaga smothered Cro Cop and roughed him up on the ground before unleashing his own version of Cro Cop’s signature kick. Mirko never saw it coming, and he crashed to the mat like he’d been shot with his leg folded awkwardly beneath him. Gonzaga went on to face Randy Couture, and the former Croatian anti-terrorism cop was relegated to being just another heavyweight.

Since the loss to Gonzaga it has been almost impossible to keep up with the various twists and turns in Cro Cop’s career. After another UFC loss, this by unanimous decision to Cheick Kongo where Cro Cop looked listless and gun shy, his management announced that he had suffered a broken rib in the first round and was having trouble breathing.

Its been an eventful year for Hong Man Choi as well. 2008 began with a loss to Fedor Emelianeko on the Yarrenoka New Years Eve event, in which the Russian fighting god briefly struggled with Choi’s 7′2″ 330 pound frame before submitting him. In April, he joined the Korean army for his compulsory military service only to be relived from his duties after medical tests discovered a brain tumor. The tumor was removed in June, and Choi was back in the ring in late September. He lost to then K-1 heavyweight champ Badr Hari in his comeback fight, and lost again to Ray Sefo in a reserve match at the recently completed World Cup GP. The losses prompted K-1 president Sadaharu Tanikawa to curiously announce that Choi had been laid off from the kickboxing promotion due to perceived erosion in his skills. Instead, Tanikawa suggested that he compete in MMA and the fight with Cro Cop is his first appearance since the layoff.

Tanikawas comments notwithstanding (and with the realization that they may be as much storyline as anything else) Choi is really the same as hes always been. Hes a physical mismatch for any opponent and while his striking style is awkward at best, it has proven to be reasonably effective. His reach is insane, and his size allows him to get a ridiculous among of leverage from his knee strikes. Not sure why Tanikawa is just now realizing that Choi isnt Ernesto Hoost, but hes a surprisingly skilled fighter who uses his unique physical attributes to their best advantage.

This fight isn’t about competition as much as it is about commerce. Cro Cop remains one of the most popular foreign fighters in Japan, and with the proven success of freak show matchups this may have been the most attractive opponent for him from the promotions standpoint. Its a fight that Cro Cop should win, and in Japan at least a victory over Choi would have at least some significance. At the same time, Choi’s size combined with Cro Cops recent reticence to throw punches and kicks makes it a potentially dangerous matchup for the Croatian striking machine.

Favre, Vikings Top Packers To Remain Undefeated

§ June 5th, 2010 § Filed under Marketing § Tagged , , , , , , , Comments Off

Brett Favre has been a significant part of the Minnesota Vikings undefeated start the NFL regular season, and on Monday night he finally beat his old team, the Green Bay Packers. Favre passed for 271 yards and three touchdowns as the Vikings prevailed by a 30-23 final score. The Vikings improved to 4-0, while the Packers dropped to 2-2.

The Vikings rewarded NFL betting enthusiasts by covering the spread as -4 home favorites. Minnesota is now 3-1 against the number, while the Packers loss evened their ATS record on the season at 2-2.

Afterwards , Favre said that he didnt have any unusual emotions playing against his old team:

“I don’t know how to explain it. I felt right, but I guess I never thought I’d be in that situation.”

He had gone out of his way to downplay the significance of the matchup:

“My statement has been what I’ve done over my career. One game does not define my career good or bad. I know what I’ve done. I’m proud of what I’ve done. I know I can play. I wanted to do what it takes to win.”

Still, Favres teammate Adrian Peterson said that the team understood the games importance:

“I definitely wanted to get this win for Brett. He downplayed it all week, but I just knew it meant a lot to him. I could see it in his eyes.”

Packers cornerback Charles Woodson gave credit to Favre, but then admitted that his team didnt help themselves with their effort:

“I don’t think there was any question what he could do when he came back. But you know, we didn’t do ourselves any justice.”

Favres replacement under center in Green Bay, Aaron Rodgers, had a rough night. He was sacked eight times and threw an interception and after the game was critical of his performance:

“Below my expectations, definitely. To have three possessions where you’re in their territory and come away with zero points, two of them are directly related to mistakes by myself, that’s disappointing.”

Vikings coach Brad Childress was impressed with Favre’s poise in the face of all the media focus on playing his former team:

“You don’t want quarterback crying coming out of the locker room. He was great.”

The Vikings will your head to St. Louis to play one of the NFLs worst teams this weekend, the St. Louis Rams. They’ll return home to host the Baltimore Ravens the following week before playing the Superbowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers on October 25th. The Packers will take this weekend off before hosting the Detroit Lions on October 18th. They’ll play at Cleveland the following Sunday before a return date with the Vikings at Lambeau Field on November 1st.

Tapping Into The Most Popular Characters Used In Halloween Costumes

§ May 22nd, 2010 § Filed under Home Based Business § Tagged , , , , , , , , , , , Comments Off

Shortly after the start of the school year children begin to talk of the next major holiday, Halloween. There is normally an undercurrent about who will have the most popular characters used in Halloween costumes. When parents consider the upcoming costumes the first thing that comes to their minds is the cost.

The thing is, most kids really only wear the costume one night of the year. To spend any significant amount of money on it would simply seem irresponsible and wasteful to many people. Of course, should you find other uses for it throughout the year, then it gets easier to reconcile the expense. If your child is young enough, you could think about adding the costume to the trunk of dress-up clothes in their bedroom.

Kids love this holiday, and the costume is something that they get worked up about. The expense of the costume never enters their mind. The competition between school aged children for the best one can get somewhat heated. This is a huge deal for most children. They remember what they dressed up as, what their friends went as, and what everyone said about it. It usually leaves a very lasting impression.

Many of the costumes that children end up clamoring for are based on their favorite movies. Licensed character items get to be very pricey courtesy of their high demand. In order to keep your expenses down you can try one of two ways to lower your cost. The first way is to cruise the clearance racks immediately after the holiday is over and pick one up for the following year. The drawback is that you are betting that the same character will still be in demand.

Another way that you can save money on these is to check in the thrift stores and consignment stores well ahead of time. As the holiday approaches these variety of retailers will run very low on all costumes, if they have any left at all. You may need to start checking their selection six to eight weeks early in order to take advantage of what they offer.

The creative person possesses and advantage over the rest of us. Making the costume yourself you are free to do so at your convenience. You will not need to worry about selection or availability. By paying attention to the sale fliers you can even save a lot of money.

The talented seamstress will be able to create the same costumes that are found in the stores. The upside will be the superior quality. Keep careful track of how much money you spend at the fabric store, though. If you are not thinking about it this can easily cost you more than simply purchasing Halloween costumes upfront. Where this really makes sense is to put together something for a child that is difficult to fit properly.

Using ordinary clothes is a stroke of genius, if you can figure out a way to do it. By combining it with the right make-up and wig it will be truly unique and just the thing your little one had in mind. All in all, no matter which method you employ, your added efforts will ensure that your child has a wonderful Halloween.

Oya Costumes provides a massive selection of costumes to suit your seasonal needs. We sell everything from Halloween costumes Canada to general, everyday costumes – there’s nothing we don’t have!

Increasing Revenue For Hotels Without Extra Expense

§ May 14th, 2010 § Filed under Marketing § Tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , § 1 Comment

As hotels and other lodging property owners are battling everyday to attract new visitors to their property. As the travel industry slows down, it is forcing lodging owners/managers to locate and find a place to increase revenue.

Most lodging companies such as Hotels, Resorts, Condos, Apartments, Lofts, Villas and etc pay 3rd party portals to promote their property and pay a commission every time their property is rented or booked.

This process is very effective in attracting the public to your property. The public searches these portals and can find the best available public rate. Someone makes a reservation through these portals you could be paying up to 50% in commission for booking services.

Members of private clubs typically visit the site they belong to, before they search any other site. If you are not listed inside their members directory, then your property will not be discovered and you could possibly be missing millions a year.

One of the biggest factors of determining if you can participate in these types of programs is what type of hotel discount can you supply to members. Companies such as Hotels Etc. travel club, requires you to provide a certain type of discount to members. Once you determine the type of discount that you can afford to provide to travel club members, then you should contact the travel club and ask to be included in their directory.

If the membership club accepts your enrollment, you will then be listed inside a private database that will only be accessible to members. These members typically contact your Hotel direct to make discounted hotel reservations. Private membership clubs always encourages you to have the member present their membership card at the time of check-out or do not honor the discount.

If you have a system that allows you to generate a promo code, discount code, or a special code, then you can provide a direct link to your site for members to make discounted reservations. The most important thing to remember is that you need to inform your entire staff that you are participating in the program. Companies such as Hotels Etc. are very picky about hotels and property owners pushing away members. They take a lot of pride in offering an incredible service to members.
