§ February 1st, 2010 § Filed under Marketing § Tagged , , , , , , , , , , , Comments Off

Pens are small, fairly inexpensive but in respect to using them for gifts they don’t get disposed of till they have been fully used, giving them a life of one or two months depending on usage. Because of this versatility they are a perfect gift.

Pen manufacturers would agree that the most common ink color these days is black ballpoint. When you are looking for advertising exposure the black ballpoint pen cannot easily be beaten for dollar for dollar advertising & market exposure value. Your clients can be constantly reminded of your business each day when you add your branding or unique company features to the pen.

Black ballpens are the most preferred amongst sales people and office workers but blue is next in line in popularity. Odd and interesting colors such as orange or pink can also be used, but are of little usableness. They’re best for party-hire companies or children’s wear businesses. After all you are giving a very practical gift so it may be better to stick with blue of black ink.

Imagination is your only limit when it comes to the outside appearance of a pen. As long as the pen is still usable practically as a pen, you would still achieve your exposure goals regardless of how it looks like.

On the pen’s body, you should first focus on company info you want to put, before thinking of the pen’s body design next. If you do not do this, you may end up with a great physical design but has no space for the info you want to add. This would defeat your advertising purpose completely.

When it comes to the body of the pen, do not go too cheap. Quality looking pens will be preferred by more people than cheap looking ones. Don’t use cheap pen interiors either. A lot of us has thrown away a pen in frustration because a pen does not work when we tried using it. This experience can then leave the person reflecting the quality of the pen on your company which is not good or what you intended.

Good corporate gift suppliers should allow you to buy pens in volumes you require, in addition to the design concept of the pen body & its quality aspects we discussed.

The Screen Printing Process

§ January 29th, 2010 § Filed under Marketing § Tagged , , , , , , , , , , Comments Off

Screen printing is a printing process that makes use of a woven mesh to hold an ink-blocking stencil. The attached stencil outlines the open areas of the mesh that transfer ink in the form of a sharp-edged image on the surface that is to be printed and this surface is called substrate. On the screen stencil, a squeegee or roller moves and pumps the ink on the open areas that are to be printed with that particular color.

Silk screening or serigraph also involves screen printing. In this, the stencil method of the print making imposes a design on the screen of silk or any other fine mesh and the empty areas are covered with an impermeable substance while the ink is put on the printing surface through the mesh. The silk printing was the traditional method but now it has been replaced with the polyester for screen painting.

Screen painting is the technique developed by the Chinese almost 2000 years back and the screen was made of human hair stretched across a wooden frame. The Japanese developed it further by using the woven silk as mesh and lacquers as stencils. Europe adopted this technique much later as it involved silk which was not available in the Europe.
