Printmaking is actually a process for making a masterwork in ink; the work known as a print is made indirectly, via the transfer of ink from the surface where the work was initially sketched or composed. Undertaking this printmaking can be achieved in the following methods. The most used are the woodcut, etching, lithography, as well as screen-printing. Other printmaking methods include chine-coll, collography, monotyping, engraving, drypoint, mezzotint, linocut, aquatint as well as batik. These techniques could likewise be merged.
Woodcut is a form of relief print thought to be the earliest printmaking method, originating back to 9th century China. The artist draws a sketch on a plank of timber and then uses pointed instruments to carve away the areas of the block that he/she would not like to have the ink. The elevated areas of the block are inked with a brayer and after that a sheet of paper, most likely slightly damp, is put above the block. The block will then be rubbed with a baren or spoon, or is run through the press.
Etching prints are usually linear and frequently have fine detail and curves. Outlines could vary from smooth to sketchy. A waxy acid-resist, referred to as a ground, will be placed on a metal plate. Right after the ground has dried up, the artisan uses a pointed tool to scrape into the ground, exposing the steel. The plate will then be completely submerged in an acid that takes away at the exposed steel. This method is known as biting. The wax-like resist protects the acid from biting the portions of the plate which have not been scratched into. The more time the plate continues to be in the acid, the deeper the incisions turn into. The plate is taken out from the acid and the ground is removed with a solvent like turpentine. The entire plate is inked. A wad of cloth is usually used to push the ink right into the incised outlines. The surface is wiped clean using a piece of stiff fabric known as tarlatan or newsprint paper. The wiping actually leaves ink merely in the incisions. A damp piece of paper is positioned above the plate and it is run through the press.
Lithography is a printing technology created a technique of imaging limestone from which a print was produced. Based on the principle that oil and water do not blend, an aluminium or plastic plate is covered with a photopolymer film that is totally exposed to light through a photographic mask. The uncovered sections are chemically “hardened,” and the unexposed areas will be dissolved when the plate is subjected to a chemical process. When printing a page, the plate will be wet, and the water adheres merely to the unexposed, non-image areas, that repell the oily ink that is used on the plate immediately after that.
Screen printing, also known as “silk-screening” produces bold color by using a stencil method. The artisan draws a graphic on a piece of paper or plastic film can likewise be used. The graphic is cut out creating a stencil. A screen is made from a piece of fabric stretched over a wooden frame. The stencil is attached to the screen. The screen will then be put on top of a piece of dry paper or fabric. Ink will then be placed across the top length of the screen. A squeegee (rubber blade) will be used to distribute the ink across the screen, over the stencil, as well as onto the paper/fabric. The screen is raised and the graphic will be moved onto the paper/fabric. Every color requires a separate stencil. The screen could be re-used after washing.

The delicate technique of printmaking has a much higher element of surprise. Smith-Harrison enjoys this slightly unstable delivery of his concepts. He states “I am attracted to the infinite possibilities of impressing ink onto paper and I find the unique textural characteristics of prints to be stimulating, seductive, and full of subtlety and nuance.” It is a time-consuming technique inherited from the wonderful engravers of the Renaissance, a period of time which in particular fascinates Smith-Harrison. He emphasizes that his fascination with earlier artistic traditions will be as important to him as his connection with current life.
Smith-Harrison’s high artistic standing has guaranteed tremendous exhibition of his work. He has displayed several solo and group exhibitions across California. His work was likewise exhibited at the Evergreen Graphic Art Association, Taipei Cultural Centre, Taiwan in 1993.

Printmaking is a very broad medium in art and can be studied almost anyplace, in art institutions or from printmaking artists. Once you learn the basics, you will find there are numerous methods to make a really good print.
Printmaking is an art which involves the transferring of an image from a single surface like an inked plate to another such as a piece of paper, cloth, metal or timber. The art finds its power in its aesthetic value as well as its ability to be duplicated, contributing greatly to the definition of world cultures. One would find alternative printmaking methods as diverse as Indian, Asian, European, and American cultures. With each, a style has manifested itself over time, transforming into a sort of aesthetic tradition for the people.
Printmaking is the method of making artworks by printing, normally on paper. Except in the case of monotyping, the process is perfect for producing several duplicates of the very same piece which is called a print. Every piece is not a duplicate but an original since it is not a reproduction of some other work of art and is practically known as an impression. Painting or drawing on the other hand, produce a distinctive original piece of artwork. Prints are made from a single original surface area known technically as a matrix. Frequent types of matrices include: plates of steel, commonly copper or zinc for engraving or etching; natural stone, put to use in lithography; pieces of timber for woodcuts, linoleum for linocuts as well as fabric plates for screen-printing. Yet there are many other kinds. Works printed from a single plate create an edition, in modern times typically each signed and numbered to make a limited edition. Prints may also be published in book form, as artist’s books. A single print could be the product of one or multiple techniques.
Printmaking methods can be broken into the following standard families or classes: 1) relief printing, in which the ink passes by the original surface of the matrix. Relief techniques consist of: woodcut or woodblock as the Oriental varieties are usually known, wood engraving, linocut and metalcut; 2) intaglio, in which the ink will go beneath the original surface of the matrix. Intaglio techniques consist of: engraving, etching, mezzotint, aquatint, chine-coll as well as drypoint; 3) planographic, in which the matrix retains its entire surface but some parts are treated to produce the graphic. Planographic methods consist of: lithography, monotyping, as well as digital techniques.4) stencil, including: screen printing as well as pochoir. 5) Viscosity printing.
Other forms of printmaking techniques outside these categories include collagraphy and foil imaging. Modern printmaking technology may included like digital printers, photographic platforms and mixture of both digital processes as well as traditional processes. Many of these methods can likewise be merged. For example, Rembrandt’s prints are often referred to as etchings for convenience, but very often include work in engraving as well as drypoint at the same time, and quite often don’t have any etching at all.
Often color in printmaking which involves etching, screen printing, woodcut, or linocut is applied by either making use of separate plates, blocks or screens or by using a reductionist approach. In multiple plate color techniques are numerous plates, screens or blocks made, each giving a various color. With a few printing methods such as chine-coll or monotyping, printmaking artists might sometimes merely paint into the colors they want, like a painter would and then print. The subtractive color concept is also applied to offset or digital print and is present in bitmap or vectorial software in CMYK or other color spaces.
Printmaking is certainly a vast medium in art and can be studied nearly anyplace, in art classes or from printmaking artists. Once you learn the basics, you will find there are several techniques to create a really good print.
Screen Gems recently came out with a new comedy/action flick titled “Easy A” into theaters a while back. I finally got around to watching it,and I agree with the top critics’ positive opinions on this one. It was an excellent film.
Ms. Emma Stone should be a comedian because she was a total riot in this flick. Her and Amanda Bynes totally delivered some good drama and comedy. The film stars: Emma Stone, Penn Badgley, Amanda Bynes, Thomas Haden Church, Patricia Clarkson, Cam Gigandet, Lisa Kudrow, Malcolm MacDowell, Aly Michalka, and Stanley Tucci.
“Easy A” centered around character Olive (Stone) who,one day, gives into her friend’s intense desires for her to tell her she finally had sex with a college dude. Soon enough, the rumor spreads like wildfire throughout the school. And,all of a sudden, Olive goes from being unnoticed most of the time to being constantly stared at and talked about. It also doesn’t sit well with self righteous Christian freak Marianne (Bynes). She constantly tells Olive she needs to beg for forgiveness from God.

Nothing stops there. Olive eventually helps out her gay friend named Brandon from continuing to get picked on by pretending to have sex with him. From that point, the rumors got worse, but Olive embraced them, and continued to help create more of them by taking offers from other guys. As the hype of her being easy continues to perpetuate, she plays the role very convincingly by wearing skimpy outfits with the letter “A” sown into them.
Towards the end,one final event makes her want to set the real record straight. I thought the movie was very funny as it included scenes, which featured Olive making fake sex noises with Brandon, lots of quick, witty remarks,Olive’s mother revealing that she was a slut in high school, and more.
The laughs just never stopped in this flick. It was never dull, and kept me extremely entertained the whole time. That Emma Stone is a great actress. This movie made me a fan of hers. It was great to see Amanda Bynes back on the big movie screen . She was hilarious as well. Penn Badgley did a real good job as the cool,low-key guy named Woodchuck Todd. If you want to giggle hard,go watch this movie. I gave it a great “A+” grade.

Lionsgate recently came out with their new Ryan Reynolds branded,mystery/thriller film entitled “Buried” a while back. I finally checked it out,and agree with the top film critics’ positive opinion of the movie.
I think the movie delivered a really unique story with tons of drama. However, I think I developed a case of claustrophobia by watching it and imagining if I was buried alive in a coffin. The film stars: Ryan Reynolds and Jose Maria Yazpik.
The movie revolved around character Paul Conroy (Reynolds) who is a truck driver over in Iraq, and wakes up to find himself buried alive in a coffin and tied up with nothing but a cigarette lighter, cell phone,a few glow lights, knife, and one flash light. He finds out about all these tools as the movie goes along.

He starts panicking. As the film continues, he’s able to untie himself, get the lighter, and calls every damn body he knows. After getting a couple of answering machines and leaving a few messages, he’s eventually connected with a hostage specialist in Iraq who is working frantically to try and find him.
At various points in the film, Paul receives a call from his kidnappers, demanding $5 million dollars from the embassy for his release. Unfortunately,a couple of bombing events make it more difficult for the hostage specialist to find him,and the movie ends with a shocking revelation.
The movie was excellent. It was about an hour and 20 minutes of just Ryan’s character trapped in a wooden coffin. However,it still managed to deliver some “edge of your seat” scenes. There were a few incidents that caused other things to enter the coffin with him that weren’t good for his life, and it was interesting to see what he came up with to get out of those situations with his very scarce resources.
The Buried movie damn near gave me claustrophobia just watching it because these movies are really good at bringing a person’s mind into the world of it,and it was very hard to imagine being trapped in a coffin like that. It had me wondering what the hell I would do if that ever happened to me. It was quite interesting and unique. I gave it a grade A for the authenticity alone.

New Line Cinema released a new horror/thriller movie titled “The Rite” into theaters. I just got done checking it out,and it was very good. It featured a lot of intense exorcism scenes with acting legend Anthony Hopkins. The film stars: Anthony Hopkins, Colin O’Donoghue, Alice Braga, Ciaran Hinds, and Rutger Hauer.
“The Rite” movie centered around characters Michael Kovak (O’Donoghue) and Father Lucas Trevant (Hopkins). Michael is a young American Priest who has issues with his own faith. He has a difficult time believing that the Devil exist as well as the so-called Demonic possessions. The movie, often times, showed flashbacks of Michael’s childhood, which is where he first developed his faith issues when his father passed away.
Michael heads to Italy to study exorcism with Lucas because his teacher thought he might need to gain some deeper experience with exorcism since he doubted it so much. In just a few minutes after his arrival at Lucas’ house,he gets his first introduction to a live exorcism with a girl who is pregnant, and goes in and out of possessions.

With very convincing evidence of possession,Michael still shows much doubt in the faith. The victim spat out nails, blood, her voice changed, she became an extreme contortionist, and all other kinds of weird stuff, but Michael still swore she just needed to see a psychiatrist because she’s troubled.
Eventually, Michael starts getting issues of his own, which were brought on by weird dreams he had about his dead father. Father Lucas tries to help him through his issues. However, Michael’s doubting faith gets put to a major test when the demon possesses someone he never thought it would possess, and if Michael doesn’t collect some faith fast, his life and other’s lives are definitely in danger.
Michael and his lady friend are in the room during the possession, and things get pretty bad. Finally,Michael gets his back pushed up against the wall, and is forced to deal with his faith issues and issues with God,which helps him overcome what is getting ready to kill him. The ending was very intense and had me on the edge of my seat.
In my opinion, the movie was very entertaining and interesting. However, there were some slow scenes during the film, and I found myself dosing off a bit. However, when things picked up,they really picked up in a very major way. It featured a lot of “can’t miss,” intense scenes. The exorcism scenes were very disturbing and convincing. I gave the movie a B grade.

Fox released their new drama, action movie titled “Unstoppable” into theaters about 2 months ago. I just checked it out,and must say that it was an absolutely great movie.
I liked this entire movie from beginning to end. It delivered a lot of “edge of your seat” scenes, along with high drama and action. The flick stars: Denzel Washington, Chris Pine, Rosario Dawson, and Kevin Chapman.
The movie is based on true events and revolved around character Frank who’s a veteran train engineer and a young conductor named Will . The two of them start off on a bumpy path, relationship wise, because Frank is a little upset that they’re giving good jobs to the new younger guys with less actual experience. However, they manage to get along good enough to get the train moving on course.

Dewey who is an irresponsible train driver decides to hop off the train he’s in while it’s still moving so he can pull a switch. The train gets away from him while the air breaks are detached and the controls are set to full throttle. Railroad controller Connie is quickly made aware of the problem, and makes phone calls to set some stops in place.
The train eventually picks up too much speed for any stop to work. Corporate ignores the advice from Connie to derail the train before it gets to the crowded town areas. They send in people to try and slow it down from the front, but that fails horribly, and the train continues to head for a major disaster.
Will and Frank end up deciding to go after the unmanned train on their own. They try to stop it from the back with a single car train. However, after a huge effort to attach themselves to the train, they realize that it has way too much power for them to stop it.
The two of them climbed over train cars, pulled the breaks on every car individually, and finally got to the front of the train to stop it. And they were,of course, being covered by lots of TV news stations. I really dug this movie. It was highly entertaining.
The film was quite simple and to the point. The dangerous train, full of explosives, was on the loose, and they needed to stop it. They were able to do it with “edge of your seat” action with a great storyline that left me saying, “Whoa, that was cool.” I gave this movie an A+ grade for sure.
